Sound healing is a powerful tool that combines different healing sounds, music, and sound healing instruments to improve our multidimensional well-being by creating a beautiful experience where all layers of our luminous energy field (body, mind, soul, spirit) are awakened gently and lovingly [1]. Sound healing uses vibrations, produced by crystal singing bowls, tuning forks, gongs, and even the human voice, to promote relaxation, reduce stress, and improve physical and mental well-being. The foundation of sound healing is that the universe is in a state of vibration, including our bodies. When these vibrations are out of harmony, it can lead to physical and emotional imbalances.

Sound Healing

The science behind sound healing

Sound therapy helps alter brain waves by slowing down the brainwaves from Gamma or Beta to Theta or Delta, equivalent to a deep relaxed state or deep sleep.  In fact, research shows that a 1-hour sound healing session is equivalent to 3 hours of deep rest. Check out the chart below for a visual on how this works:

Sound healing has been found to be helpful in alleviating the symptoms of anxiety, stress, and tension in the body [2]. Additionally, Tibetan singing bowls have been found to decrease tension, anxiety, and depression and increase feelings of well-being. Research has shown these instruments to be a low-cost, low-technology tool to support these common mental health symptoms [3].

Sound meditation is a supportive meditative tool for folks who may have a hard time with traditional forms of meditation. The instruments used are tuned to the same resonance of the 7 main energy centers of the body (aka chakras) with the intention of balancing them. Music created by the instruments and sounds in this practice is familiar to most people and, as such, is a supportive tool for meditation practices.

What to expect during a sound healing session

At Grounded Wellbeing, our group sound healing sessions are designed to promote an overall feeling of stress relief and relaxation. Think of them as an energetic reset for your nervous system. Ryan uses crystal singing bowls, chimes, drums, and other unique sounds to assist the mind into a meditative state of deep relaxation. The instruments used are tuned to the same resonance of the 7 main energy centers of the body (aka chakras) with the intention of balancing them. Group sound healing sessions are an hour long and involve little to no talking.

Each person will have their own space to lie flat on their back (or seated in a chair, depending on comfort/ability level). Attendees are encouraged to bring their own yoga mats, blankets, pillows, or other props that may be supportive. Research shows that a 1-hour sound healing session is equivalent to 3 hours of deep rest.
