Tell us a little bit about yourself!

My name is Amber (she/they), and I'm a therapist at Grounded Wellbeing. I'm a white, queer-identifying Licensed Master Social Worker that specializes in trauma recovery work with teens and adults. I love to work with creative, queer, & neurodivergent teens & adults healing from difficult childhood experiences & relational trauma.

When did you first know that you wanted to pursue this career path/how have your interests and passions developed over time?

I first considered becoming a therapist when I was a teenager. I lived in a challenging home environment and struggled quite a bit with the instability. Living with this dynamic ultimately sparked my curiosity about psychology and human behavior. I've always been deeply interested in understanding the root cause of behavior, which eventually evolved into a passion for educating others about trauma and the ways adverse experiences shape the brain.

My path to being a therapist was a bit indirect. During my undergraduate studies, I focused on both psychology and statistics. I even went on to earn a master’s degree in statistics and spent several years working as a statistician. However, I always felt drawn back to this field, which led me back to school to earn a master’s in social work and pursue a career as a therapist. Looking back, I’m grateful to have had the chance to pursue my own healing journey before stepping into this field. Becoming a therapist was the best decision I’ve ever made, and I feel honored to do this work every day.

Do you have any creative outlets or interests? Tell us about them!

Yes! Music has always been a huge part of my life. I’ve been singing since childhood, playing guitar since I was 16, and writing my own songs since age 23. Once I started writing, I couldn’t stop. I have a couple dozen songs, some complete and some not-so-complete. More recently, I have developed a love for painting landscapes with gouache. It is a daily part of my routine that I feel incomplete without. Art is such an integral part of my life and it’s something I really enjoy integrating into work with clients as well.

Which of GWB’s values do you feel connected to? Why?

Definitely compassion. I strongly believe that every human being has inherent dignity and worth. We are all generally doing the best that we can with the capacity that we have. I believe that compassion can foster a deeper sense of peace - both for the person practicing compassion and for the world as more of us embrace it.

What is your go-to coffee or tea order?

Oh goodness, this is a hard one to answer because it changes. If I’m ordering coffee, I typically enjoy a brown sugar cinnamon latte with a triple shot of espresso, or a quad shot of espresso if I am feeling a little bit more tired than usual. If I’m ordering Boba, I always get a Matcha latte with mango pop.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and learn more about me! If you’re interested in connecting or working with me, you can reach out to me here
